Holistic Dentistry

Our team practices holistic dentistry. We treat oral health in order to improve total bodily health, and we are always aware of the connections and cause-and-effect relationships between oral and overall health.

Dr. Moua has practiced dentistry for more than 17 years. Along with his DMD degree and residency, he also studied at the Kois Center, where he learned a holistic approach to dentistry and continues to pass on that knowledge to everyone in our dental office.

When any member of our team is treating your teeth, we are also looking for the broader causes of health conditions. We are happy to help you enhance your holistic health and give you more control over it.

Treating the Whole Patient

The primary concern of holistic dentists is being aware of the whole body health system while working on your teeth and gums. For example, the foods you choose to eat will affect the health of your teeth. Conversely, a tooth or gum infection that isn’t treated can spread bacteria through your body that can potentially attack your heart, brain, and other organs.

Going along with this, holistic dentistry practices include the following practices and philosophies to promote better overall health through your mouth and whole body:

Keeping You Safe From Mercury

Many holistic dentists can remove old fillings that contain mercury, a substance that can be dangerous if it is released into your body. Besides removing mercury, holistic dentists follow strict procedures to control the mercury during a removal, preventing the mercury from being released into the air or environment—or into your mouth or lungs.

Using Safe Materials

When working on your teeth or adding fillings or appliances, we only use non-toxic materials that have been proven to be compatible with healthy human bodily systems. This helps to reduce stress on your immune system, protecting you from other health problems. If you ever have any questions about our standards and the materials we use, we’re happy to answer them.

Educating Patients

Holistic dentists spend more time empowering their patients with knowledge than the average dentist does. We want you to have a better ability to direct your own health. We might give you information about better products for cleaning teeth and ways to reduce toxicity in the body, for example.

Looking for Alternatives to Surgery

Holistic dentists will use dental surgery if it offers the best overall health outcome for a patient but will search for alternatives first. We may use a dental laser to stop a bacterial infection, for example, instead of using a chemical or cutting tool. With a holistic dentist, you can trust that you’ll have access to a wide range of solutions, rather than immediately jumping to surgery.

Minimally Invasive

While all dental care will have some effect on your body, we know that invasive dental procedures can cause undue stress on more than just your mouth. We emphasize effective dental care while being minimally invasive, so you’ll experience less stress, less discomfort, and faster healing times for better comprehensive health.

Using Safer X-Ray Devices

The best digital x-ray devices emit up to 90% less radiation than traditional x-ray devices. Deep scans are indispensable for protecting dental and overall health, allowing us to see inside of your teeth and jawbones for developing problems. But for your overall health, we believe that x-rays should also expose you to as little radiation as possible.
